Performs semi-skilled and skilled work, from routine to difficult in nature, in the installation, maintenance, and repair of the mechanical and electrical equipment associated with a specialty and fine chemical plant and systems. May lead or train other workers as assigned. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Maintenance Foreman or Manager, who is available for instruction/assistance in the solution of new, unusual, or unforeseen problems or situations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Responds to calls for emergency repairs.
- Observes, tests, and inspects equipment and machinery for proper operation.
- Repairs large capacity pumps, motors, floats, valves, pipes, screens, large horsepower gear boxes, conveyor belts, etc.
- Performs routine maintenance and repair work.
- Removes and replaces pumps and motors.
- Overhauls pumps, motors, and other equipment
- Performs preventive maintenance checks as scheduled.
- Maintains tools and equipment
- Maintains various activity records and logs of supplies and equipment used.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs water and sewer lines, pipes, valves, faucets, traps, sinks, and other related equipment
- Electrical construction and troubleshooting ranging from low voltage instrumentation to 440V.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Ability to maintain various forms of plant instrumentation preferred.
- Maintain plant boiler
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED:
- Various Hand and Power Tools Cutting Torch
- Light Truck or Other Motor Vehicle Power Sanders
- Grinders and Drills
- Welders as qualified
- Various diagnostic instrumentation and power meters.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Three – five years of progressively responsible experience performing mechanical maintenance in a plant (preferably chemical) environment.
- Additional vocational or technical training in mechanical maintenance is preferred.
- Any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Tools, methods, materials, and techniques of the specialty area.
- Operation and maintenance of hand and power tools.
- Basic mathematics.
- Working with power tools, equipment, or machinery following all prescribed safety rules and regulations.
- Electric power to 440V, and
- Low voltage instrumentation.
- Welding, electronics technician capabilities
- Rigger and millwright work, above 30 ft
- Glass line vessel and repairs
- Boiler operator
Skill In:
- Read and understand manuals, specifications, drawings, electrical schematics, and blueprints.
- Working with hand and power tools.
- Performing maintenance and repair tasks.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Work as a member of a team, becoming increasingly knowledgeable and skillful
Working Conditions:
While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions, work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, or vibration.
